These vessels are part of an exploration into the interplay between utility and sculpture, merging functional design with a sculptural presence. The pieces aim to embody a balance of sharp and soft details, creating dual silhouettes that shift with perspective. The layered glaze highlights these dynamic surfaces, encouraging engagement and drawing viewers to interact through touch. Driven by a desire to evoke a tangible connection, this work reflects a fascination with transforming everyday objects into vessels that hold both personal and shared meaning, inviting a deeper appreciation for the beauty in both form and function.
The pieces combine wheel-thrown and hand-built techniques, starting on the wheel and later altered with sculptural details. The surfaces are adorned with ornamental reliefs, which create dynamic patterns. Glazes have been customized and are applied to encourage dripping and pooling around these details, enhancing the interplay between form and finish. Fired to cone 6 with a carefully refined kiln schedule, the controlled cool-down process encourages glaze crystallization, adding depth and visual interest to the pieces.
